A celebration of friendship between UK and Peru

This Sunday 21st of April we celebrate The Queen’s birthday, an opportunity to celebrate the good relationship between our countries as well. I am frequently asked by children here what the difference is between Great Britain and Scotland and England and the United Kingdom.  It can seem rather complicated, I know.  In the United Kingdom […]

The successful women of tomorrow are the empowered girls of today

By Cariño Ramos (Plan International) Women represent more than 50% (292 million) of the population in Latin America and the Caribbean, and of that total, more than 104 million are under the age of 19. Young and teenage girls are a particularly vulnerable group in society because of their gender and age. Plan International recently […]

The UK takes a big step towards equal marriage

The following is a guest post by Ben Rawlings, Prosperity Officer – British Embassy, Lima. Marriage is an important institution in the UK. The principles of long-term commitment and responsibility that underpin it are part of what binds society together. But marriage is not static; it has always been an evolving institution. In the 20th […]

The Falkland Islands referendum and their right of self-determination

In June this year the Falkland Islands Government announced their intention to hold a referendum on their sovereignty in 2013. The islanders want to tell the world what their views are in a clear, democratic and incontestable way. Their government has decided a referendum is the best way to achieve this. They will be looking […]

The mission of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is to work for UK interests in a safe, just and prosperous world. In this context, the role of the British Embassy in Lima is to represent the British Government and to manage the various strands of the relationship between the UK and Peru.

The UK and Peru enjoy a wide-ranging relationship covering many areas of common interest. Commercial and trade partnerships continue to flourish (the UK is the second largest foreign investor in Peru). We work closely together on issues which are important for our two countries, such as climate change, security (drugs and organised crime), sustainable development and defence. The ever-increasing number of British visitors to Peru also plays an important role in the relationship; around 54,000 British citizens came to Peru in 2011.

The British Embassy in Lima is located in Miraflores, one of the most recognised districts of Lima. There are also three Consulates in Peru located in Cusco, Arequipa, Trujillo and Iquitos.
