Washington Post climate change panel

I have been asked to contribute opinions to a series of questions on the Washington Post's website about climate change. You can find my first answer here, explaining why the UK believes nuclear power should be part of the energy mix in order to meet the twin challenges of energy security and climate change.

Is this really the right way forward? As far as I understand, nuclear energy is far from being the low carbon solution it is often claimed to be. Indeed, it is taking more and more energy to mine and enrich uranium as remaining resources dwindle and become increasingly inaccessible. And then, of course, there is the matter of dealing with the extremely long lasting radioactive waste. Is it not time to diversify our energy supply by investing in, and dedicating our efforts towards, the development of a range of truly renewable energy sources?
