The next stage of the debate

This week in the House of Commons I opened the debate on a "Bill" which will give effect to the Treaty of Lisbon in UK law. MPs will spend weeks discussing and scrutinising it and, so far, as expected, the debates have been very lively.

The EU is a way to make the UK stronger, more prosperous and more secure, and the Lisbon Treaty is a way to ensure that the EU can take effective action, whilst protecting UK national interests. What I find so surprising is that there is a vocal group of MPs who want Britain out of the EU altogether. What do you think? You can follow the debates as they happen, and read the transcripts on the Parliament website.

This is not a debate, which parliament looks at legislation, it has the right to amend bills.brbrWith the Lisbon constitution treaty, no changes can be made, ergo, its not democratic.brbrThis government has lied and is continuing to lie to the public about this treaty!brbr26 out of 27 leaders have publicly admitted that this treaty is the same as the constitution, therefore we the people, who loan you our power whilst in office must have and deserve our say.brbrNot to do so negates the treaty, and we as a people cannot be bound by its terms and conditions, which your party will learn to its cost!

Having read your letter of misinformation in Sunday's Telegraph I am not surprised at the zero response to your blog

Parliament has no right to discuss the surrender of British Sovereignty to an unelected elite in Brussels. This Bill is Treasonable.brIf you want to know what the people think, hold the promised referendum. This is too important to be decided by an unelected Prime Minister using the Party Whip to get what he wants.brIf you believe that being part of the EU is the best thing for Britain, TRY TO CONVINCE US. Your reluctance to hold a referendum simply confirms what we all know, that you know you would lose and you can't take that chance.

June the 19th 2008 will be remembered in history as the day that democracy finally died a death in the country that used to be known as Great Britain. On this day, in an act of sheer cowardice, arrogance and self aggrandisement, an unelected Prime Minister authorised the transfer of significant sovereign powers to an unelected dictatorship based in Brussels, in the form of a treaty which did not have the mandate of the British people.
