"Saffron on Ice"

Burma has faded from the headlines but the situation gets worse.  The  Washington Post article is a good reprise.  We are on the case: next step is UN re-engagement.

Good to see you keeping an eye on the less newsworthy stuff. Talking of which, the media has had its big push on DRC and it's all gone a bit quiet. Meanwhile the AU meet and the killing goes on. What tabs are you and your collleagues keeping on this?

It's unfathomable! Pro-democracy monks are sentenced to lenghty terms for no apparent reason, and those authorities who are responsible for putting them to prison get-off scot-free...Isn't it a shame?

Thank you for your interest and kind support for Burma. The junta has recently sentenced leangthy sentences ie 65 years for the famous leaders of "saffron revolution", 88 generation students. Burma has been suffering for long enough. The diplomatic efforts burmese people need is to encourage china and russia not block UNSC resolution. I have read in your site saying Burmese junta is notoriously isolated. Are they really? China, russia and asean countries such as singapore are junta's close allies just to name a few. India has recently changed side.

Dear Sirs, rather than wait for an ineffective talking shop such as the SADC or indeed the Southern African ex President Mbeki to do nothing to alleviate the Zimbabwean suffering why does the United Kingdom not take concrete action and freeze all Zanu members bank accounts and any business doing business there such as Rio Tinto, Barclays etc. Supposedly Mugabe cannot travel but has been to Europe on several occasions, why then not invite him to a conference on Food Aid and issue a warrant for war crimes enditement and arrest him the minute he steps off the plane?
