Pakistani Youth: Democracy or Dictatorship

The British Council sponsored debate on Pakistani radio suggests that the old (European) attractions of dictators making the trains run on time dies hard.

Dear David, Kindly do not forget that you were one of the best friends of the dictator, General Musharraf. You held a Press Conference on Nov-4 2007 in London but kept silent deliberately on the arrest, detention and plight of the judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, after the second martial law the so-called emergency imposed on Nov-3 2007 by General Musharraf. Subsequently, it was I who had to hold a Press Conference at the Park inn hotel, Glasgow, on 07.11.07 to condemn you as a 'deliberate liar' and plead for the release of the judges and restoration of the judiciary and freedom of the Press. In the future, kindly be on the side of democracy -- instead of dictatorship. Kindly convey the same message to your government. Regards, Dr Qaisar Rashid, Lahore, Pakistan.

Three cheers for context. No links to a relevant website? No clues as to in what manner this debate was conducted? This entry is, I fear, quite pointless.

Sir, What a hypocrisy? Sorry to say but indirectly UK is still ruling Pakistan through corrupt politicians and dictators. Gen Musharraf ruled by force for ten years over Pakistan, destroyed judiciary, parliament and other institutions of Pakistan, kidnapped, killed and jailed thousands of Pakistanis and here we go he is VVIP guest of the UK government. UK government has provided security to former dictator from Tax payer’s money because he served British interests in Pakistan. On one side Saddam is dictator and UK invaded Iraq to introduce democracy in Iraq and on the other hand democracy in Pakistan is no good and UK supports army dictators to overthrow legitimate elected governments. Please show that UK still supports democracy by expelling Gen Musharraf from UK. Best regards
