Bringing Foreign Policy Home

Foreign Secretary on the way to Cardiff

It may seem obvious that we live in an interconnected world after the economic crisis. It has made the case for European and global political action more eloquently than any number of speeches. So the timing is good for me to head to Cardiff as the Foreign Office tries to connect our issues to the lives of people across the UK. As Henry Kissinger once remarked: "No foreign policy - no matter how ingenious - has any chance of success if it is born in the minds of a few and carried in the hearts of none."

One thing's for sure and that's the Red Box is a messy eater! On a serious note tho, fantastic job David. For me, this is what Politics is all about.

You can't have a properly functioning democracy unless the electorate understands how our relationship with the world is a two-way process and global issues are part of our everyday lives. I really applaud your commitment to "bringing foreign policy home", although quoting Henry Kissinger is not the way I'd demonstrate my commitment to democratic engagement.

Kind of like Barrack Obamas...Change doesnt come from the top down it comes from the bottom up...or JFKs...don't ask what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country. Although, I just watched the U.S. film Missing...Costas Gravas?...still very powerful after all these years...and still very relevant given Iraq and afghanistan is it really just about the pipleline?. So it made me feel not particularly...amourous?...of the U.S governement...but it was them ,U.S.citizens, criticizing... cheers ! from Canada

Dear Foreign Secretary, The Rt.Hon. David Milliband, MP, Hello and Hi – I’m hoping for a modus vivendi: as proposed already at the Convention for the Future of Europe, the EU should have left as preferred some EU Member-Nations-States remaining militarily/etc Neutral within our ESDP as all cooperating within our CFSP. This left/leaves European/EU NATO member-states open for NATO article five defensive roles, for global peace enforcement, and for ex-colonial UK part-anglophone and politico-legal models. Convention GOV.UK Representative Peter Hain dealt adequately with our ‘common good’. As NATO and the USA were flexible also, no need of USA military forces leaving us in isolation’s return. UK-in-EU /Europe were still assured, sans need for any “USE Army”. UK.GOV. et all political parties maintained status quo - and peace with Russia. Yours sincerely, Stefan Peter, Mature Citizen – UK1951!

Mr. Miliband This is my first visit to your blog. I no longer live in England, but having lived there for 15 years U.K. politics and its leadership is of immense interest to me. I have added your blog to my Blog Links so more North Americans get to know about your blog.

The global power elites created this financial disaster, and now we're told the solution is ... more globalisation. How convenient.
