Bravo Poland

Polish President Kaczyński has signed the Lisbon Treaty today.  That means 26 of 27 European states will have ratified the Treaty.  That leaves the final ratification in the Czech Republic, where the Czech Parliament has completed its work.

I think it was striking that in the aftermath of the Irish vote the media should have revisited some of the basic arguments for the Treaty for Britain - more voting weight, rationalisation of foreign policy organisation and presence, an end to institutional tinkering.  It’s a good treaty for a stronger Britain in a stronger Europe.

Sir, LISBON TREATY will be resulted into a STRONG UNION OF STATES with a big responsibility and unity. The resulting EU, after ratification, will play a major role at international level. One such treaty, like LISBON TREATY, is the demand of the hour, among Afghanistan, Pakistan and India for making LOVE, PEACE and UNITY in this region coz these three countries are facing terrorism. Leaders like you can initiate a positive atmosphere in this region with the cooperation of these countries. [Prabhat Misra, District Savings Officer, Etawah, U.P., India]

Mr. Millibands' views expressed in the newspaper article are unacceptable comments on the integrity of Polish people. Is he too young and inexperienced to remember that Poland was the only country in the last war that did not sprout a Quisling, like his own country did? Does he not know that in Poland there is no organisation or demonstarations of nazi view as in his own country? Clean up your own back yard before you express lies about others Mr. Milliband!

jesus, you read these comments by the pole and welsh and you have to wonder why anyone would bother. but those comments should serve as a reminder to anyone doubting the need for the continuing european project. the politicians need to continue to bring everyone closer together. not let the likes of the above rage fuelled, probably slightly demented haters drive policy. to this sion conlin - you very obviously really need to get out more luv', and while you're at it try getting a life.

It is a pity Tony Blair capitulated so quickly on pushing forward the previous Constitutional Treaty in 2007, when France and Holland voted against it. He did not stand up for the benefits of institutional reform, but capitulated to the "Little Englanders". This will stain his reputation for a long time, in the same way as his capitulation to US militarists in the strategy to invade Iraq.
