A Marshall Plan for Pakistan?

Glen Hubbard, writing in the Washington Post sets out the argument for a new Marshall Plan for Pakistan. It is a striking model. No one can argue that the Marshall Plan didn’t rebuild Europe sixty years ago. And as I argued in my speech on Tuesday, we must do all we can to support and partner the democratic government in Pakistan. Hubbard’s idea is certainly something worth thinking about.

"The Democratic Govt in Pakistan".Yeah right.Zimbabwe is probably a more democratic entity than the cesspool that is Pakistan. The only use the money will be put to is to arm and finance more terrorist organizations. It is a very-well documented and well-known fact except among the British Government of course that there are is shockingly large proportion of sympathizers within the the Pakistani Establishment whose support for Islamic Terrorism ranges from willfully ignoring their activities to outright help in the form of training and access to state resources. When will we ever learn......

Dear David, thanks for drawing attention again to Pakistan. After I've read Mr.Glenn Hubbard's excellent article"Bypassing the aid trap in Pakistan" and your speech in Edinburgh on 17/11/09-most notably to me part "Neighbours"- I only can write that both, article and speech are very important.I just can't get out of my head all the pictures of this hundreds of innocent killed people by these violent extremists. Best wishes, Ingo-Steven Wais

This is a wonderfull idea! By such positive and pragmatic initiatives the West can make a real contribution to this country; something that can go a long way, in long-run, to have a positive impact on the whole muslim world.

I do not think that british government will define demoracy within UK the way they have branded Pakistani government a DEMOCRATIC government. They all know this is civil dictatorship. But they all are in peril. Long live Cheif Justice Iftikhar Chaudry.

Thanks for your future plan for Pakistan, but my suggestion to you is that it should be given in the right hand, not to the political elite of Pakistan who had the opportunities but could not develop Pakistan and due to their own personel agendas

Iam really very glad to hear that something is happening in pakistan. My question? is Pakistani government sincere to implement and stick to democracy? If it is democracy then why Britain didnt force to take away pakistani president's powers to desolve parliament of pakistan. My experience with pakistan's history is like every passed day is better than coming one. lets hope for better pakistan
