Customer service in the public sector
Yesterday we launched the third annual Governor’s Five Star Award for Customer Excellence, a scheme I set up to recognise and encourage good customer service by civil servants in the Cayman Islands.
It has been gratifying just how many nominations we had in the first two years and just how many different departments were involved. The recipients of the top awards varied from someone on the counter in Immigration and another working at the tourist information desk at the airport to a school secretary and one of government’s press officers. In each case the nominations included impressive stories of civil servants providing really excellent service (see www.face.gov.ky).
In present difficult circumstances we are asking civil servants to do more, so it is even more important to recognise their hard work. I am hoping for a lot of nominations again this year.
