EDF Agreement: A very important moment
This week is a very important moment for our two countries in terms of our commercial cooperation. We’re going to be making an agreement in principle between the government in London, EDF and Areva for the construction of a new nuclear power station site at Hinkley point in Somerset.

This is a contract worth £16 billion that will create 25 thousand jobs in the UK and France. It will ensure 7% of the UK’s electricity supplies when it’s fully up and running, it’s a low-carbon, dependable energy source and it marks the beginning of a whole new generation of renewal of our nuclear reactors in the UK.
In terms of our relations with France, it marks the fact that we are the two countries in Europe who are the most committed to Nuclear energy as a future low-carbon source of electricity and it creates an undertaking between us that will last for the 35 years of the contract once the power station is built.
It’s a really long term commitment over a new technology for the future, which France and Britain together can then take to the world in export terms. Major UK companies like Rolls Royce form a big part of the consortium that will be building Hinkley Point, and many jobs will be created in the supply chain which will help bring Britain’s nuclear technology back to the point where it was a generation ago.

Cher Monsieur Peter Ricketts, á mon avis, il n ´y a pas d ´événement plus réjouissant que la construction décidée d ´une nouvelle centrale nucléaire à l´HINKLEY POINT en ce moment dans SOMRSET/ROYAUME-UNI. Pourquoi ? Parce que très peu de nations ne peuvent que garantir un déroulement d ´entreprise absolument sûr la France et les Englanf en font en tout cas partie. C´est beau , que ce contrat une valeur incroyable de 16 billions de brit. Pound. Représente de la livre. Est cependant aussi important pour moi que 25.000 nouveaux travaux soient créés dans les deux pays. Ceci pour des années nombreuses et nombreuses. Est aussi important pour moi, cela cette centrale électrique travaille avec technologie complètement nouvelle et par conséquent, elle est novatrice. Je suis aussi content que Rolls Royce soit impliqué grandement. Cette entreprise qui est typiquement brtannique devient le cachet de qualité ” It ´s réel British….it´s real British”” de nouveau dans le monde de civières hors d ´ici.
