About Julie

I arrived in Guatemala on 5 May 2009. This is my first time as an Ambassador so I thought blogging would be a fun way to remember and share some of my experiences over the next 3 years. I also am very keen – as a fellow British taxpayer – that people in the UK know how their money is spent abroad and the sorts of things that we get up to to promote the UK’s interests.

From here, our embassy covers Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. My work will vary from lobbying on human rights issues to promoting environmental protection to helping British travellers and residents in the region (for more on the Embassy, checkhttp://ukinguatemala.fco.gov.uk/en/

On a personal note, I hope to climb volcanoes (though probably not the full 37 available!); to trek through jungles and stumble over Mayan ruins (apparently that still happens…); to hone my Spanish and find some salsa classes that are friendly to the rhythmically challenged. I hope to do all this whilst avoiding snakes and earthquakes when in our 11th floor embassy. Can’t wait ….
